Transformers, the Hollywood movie about two clashing robotic clans namely the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, has started showing already. Above all the excitement on the movie is the anticipation from a car maker which has taken a huge part on the film.
It is no secret that the cars used in the movie are models from General Motors the producer of high quality Saab vehicles with durable Saab air filter. And because of this the Detroit-based automaker is hoping that the exposure of its vehicles in the Hollywood summer movie Transformers will bring in more sales for them. Some of the featured GM vehicles in Transformers were the Chevrolet Camaro concept and the Pontiac Solstice.
According to Dino Bernacchi, GM’s associate director of branded entertainment, “You’re going to see these cars as the heroes. You’re not going to see the other actors. These cars are the stars‚ literally‚ in the movie.”
The Transformers movie came just in time when the automaker is looking for an effective medium to reach younger car buyers. And the movie was just perfect. GM is hoping that through Transformers it may be able to attract car buyers ranging from 18 to 34 year of age. The company’s huge presence in the film not to mention the accompanying promotional toys and video games has really helped in increasing awareness for GM’s brand of vehicles.
For the movie, GM will be spending millions in promotion and in marketing its Transformers tie-ins but refrained from giving details on the exact figures.
In the movie, the word Camaro was mentioned many times by various characters plus there were also close-ups of the Chevy, GMC, Pontiac, and Hummer logos which has given these GM brands quite an exposure.
David Koehler, a clinical marketing professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago said, “Product placement has never been so blatant‚ and the potential for a global platform to build brand awareness could not have come at a better time for GM. The younger demographic most likely to flock to the theatres is exactly what GM needs.”
Erick Merkle, Vice-President of Forecasting for Grand Rapids-based auto consulting company IRN Inc. has a different opinion. He said that there is no assurance that those who would see the movie will end up buying GM vehicles that is despite the fact that they might be impressed with the rides. He further added, “Keep in mind that some of the vehicles they’re showing are vehicles the youth market won’t be able to afford. But they do have a tremendous influence over what people who can afford those vehicles go to buy. You shouldn’t underestimate the influence of the youth. I don’t know a baby boomer out there who doesn’t want to be cool.”
Mr. Merkle has also pointed out that those who will go and see the movie are not there because they are concerned about free-falling market shares or upcoming union negotiations and these according to him should be considered by GM.

Transformer Cybertron Megatron’s technical specifications state that he has no weakness at all. However, he is not invincible and can be beaten by his enemies. Due to his massive powers and abused confidence Megatron always seems to miss an important detail in combat, often causing him to retreat his troops from combat. A key factor contributing to the majority of his losses is his poor and harsh relationships with his own comrades. Megatron’s top achievement is to conquer Cybertron and to accomplish this he must conquer it at all costs, even if that means the massive destruction of other celestial bodies.

Decepticon Profile – Starscream

Starscream’s only true ambition is to tackle Megatron’s leadership of the Decepticons rather than follow orders. His cruelty and superior intelligence actually makes him a real threat to Megatron, but his inferior strength always leave him defeated. He thinks himself of being more modern than Megatron and often takes pleasure in critizicing him for his old-fashioned ways. Starscream obsession for speed-tactics makes him think that Megatron’s brute strategy of sheer force and destruction inferior. Verbal and physical rivalries are not a rarity between the two, but these often end up with Starscream being ridiculed in front of other Decepticons.
In the 2007 Movie the writers agreed that Starscream would maintain his negative attitude and rivalry against Megatron. Although Starscream selfishly escapes when he notices the Decepticons had been demolished by the Autobots, the movie doesn’t do a good job of showing the rivalry between the two. Following Transformers tradition, Starscream can turn into a full powered jet. In this case he turns into a modified F-22, being bigger than the average Decepticon. Transformers Cybertron Starscream’s Jet characteristics give him the ability to make huge jumps when he’s in robot mode. He can also use any of his two wings as deadly swords against his enemy.

Transformer Profile : Devastator

This is because six Decepticon minds try to agree on which moves Devastator should pull off next at the same time. This gives Devastator his simple and brutish personality of instinct, destroying everything in site before even thinking about the consequences. One of his primary weaknesses is that he’s lumbering and slow, making him an easy target to trip over.
In the Marvel Comics edition of the Transformers the birth of the Constructicons is rather straight forward. Decepticon Commander Shockwave ordered the creation of six new Decepticon beings which where given life by the Creation Matrix, extracted from the then captured Optimus Prime. The Constructicons were given life and no time was wasted. They built a gigantic radio dish which Soundwave used as a communications devise between Earth and Cybertron. The Autobots tried to jam the giant disk, but they were defeated by the Constructicons who combined into the all powerful Devastator to get the job done with ease.
The Autobots where quite impressed with Devastator’s combining ability, thus they attempted to imitate the creation of a similar Transformer who could combine into a bigger and more powerful being. However they were only able to make an Omega Supreme made from the combination of three non sentient machines. This drove the Autobots to lure Transformer Devastator out of the Decepticon base and isolate him to gather more information about his composition. When this was accomplished the Autobots could at last create Superion who was made from the combination of the new Aerialbots.
As opposed to the traditional cartoons and comics in the 2007 movie Transformer Devastator appears as an individual character that transforms into a heavily armed tank. Although this Decepticon was supposed to be Brawl, in the film it can clearly be appreciated that he names himself Devastator. Further confusion arises in the merchandise arena where he’s marketed as Brawl. The movie writers confess that this was an error and that it was intended for him to be Brawl in the movie. On the other hand, Michael Bay insists that Devastator was a much more suitable and stronger name for the insanely tough Decepticon.
